What are you reading?
I haven't had much time to read for pleasure over the past few years, but just yesterday I started re-reading 1984, by George Orwell. It should be mandatory reading for everyone, but it's especially relevant for our current national political situation. I recently finished In the Garden of Beasts, by Erik Larson, which was a fascinating tale of the American Ambassador to Hitler's Germany and his family in the 1930s.
What are you listening to?
I've been listening to Chance the Rapper's "Coloring Book" album a lot lately, but I have a weirdly diverse musical taste. On my Spotify you'd see Chance sprinkled in with Queen, Elton John, Billy Joel, classical music, Broadway shows, Eminem, and a Disney song here or there.
What is the last album or song that you downloaded?
The Hamilton mixtape. I'm a huge fan of the musical Hamilton (aren't we all?) and this mixtape features a lot of my favorite artists re-mixing songs from the musical. Jimmy Fallon even "sings" a song on the album.
Do you have a favorite podcast(s)?
Pod Save America - it's the best podcast about politics around, by some former White House colleagues. They have a unique ability of cutting through the insanity of Washington and distilling these issues down to what really matters.
What are you currently watching on TV?
I watch a lot of Seinfeld, Parks and Rec, The West Wing, Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and It's Always Sunny re-runs on Netflix and HBO GO. Ask me this question in a few months, and the answer will be a resounding Game of Thrones. I'm also back in the habit of watching the local news, which I didn't do when I was in DC.
What is the last movie you saw?
Technically La La Land. It was good, but I loved Rogue One and I'm looking forward to Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson.
Who are you following on Twitter?
A lot of local and national newspeople, along with some friends, athletes, and comedy accounts. I still think Twitter is the best way of filtering and receiving news, in a way that Facebook hasn't been able to control.
How do you spend your Sundays?
Sunday is my favorite day of the week. Football, grocery shopping, laundry, sleeping in, and regrouping for the week. When it's not the winter, I try to go for a long run on Sunday, and I try to go to bed early (which never works).
