What are you reading?
With a 21 month old boy at home I'm reading the classics: Pout Pout Fish, Are You a Cow and my favorite, Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? So...I'm reading about three or four books a night. Beat that.
What are you listening to?
When I'm driving to work it's usually The Dan Patrick Show or Howard Stern. I grew up an Imus guy but my wife turned me onto Stern. I've learned more about interviewing people from Dan Patrick and Stern than anyone else, except for maybe Scott Pelley of CBS and 60 Minutes. They've made me a better reporter. When I'm mowing the lawn or on a bike ride, the iPod is on shuffle. So a little Billy Joel, a little Blake Shelton, a little Tragically Hip and the Bee Gees.
What is the last album or song that you downloaded?
I think the latest songs I downloaded were a few from Chris Stapleton. Great country song writer who can belt them out. He has this one line in his song Parachute: "falling feels like flying ‘til you hit the ground."
Do you have a favorite podcast(s)?
I love listening to the Dan Patrick Show podcast. It's the most enjoyable sports and current culture show on the air. When I listen, I laugh and learn things that I didn't know before.
But the best podcast in the country today is Hardcore History by Dan Carlin. If you want to understand how and why the 20th Century worked and why our world is what it is today, you have to listen to his work on the First World War titled "Blueprint for Armageddon."
I'm in the middle of his three part podcast on the fall of the Roman Republic called "Death Throes of the Republic."
What are you currently watching on TV?
Obviously, every single second of News10NBC including the commercials. Who's with me? Honestly, it's mostly Bubble Guppies and the Mickey Mouse Playhouse. But when Little Berk goes to bed we've tried to stay up through "The Night Of." We're still working on Episode 1.
(True story: I just had to go through our DVR recording list to remember what we watch in TV. There's lots of Real Housewives on there.)
What is the last movie you saw?
In a theater? I'm pretty sure it was the last Star Wars. Loved it.
Who are you following on Twitter?
This is going to sound arrogant but I don't really follow anyone. I scroll through periodically to see what's there. I follow roughly 2,500 people. In the early days of Twitter, one of the ways you could build up your followers was by following every single Twitter handle that had Rochester in it. So that's what I did (during the hours of monotonous, technical testimony of a very high profile criminal trial.) Doesn't really lend itself to having a finely tuned Twitter feed.
How do you spend your Sundays?
I love Sundays, especially in the Fall. Mass at St. Thomas More. A walk or bike ride with my beautiful wife and best friend Shannon and my best buddy, Little Berk (Francis Berkeley Brean IV to be exact). Then the Bills game, followed by nagging questions about why I cheer for the Bills, followed by play time with Berk, which makes me forget about the Bills.
