What are you reading?
I don’t have much time to read for pleasure these days (unfortunately) but when I do it’s usually a biography or something related to history. Right now I’m reading Igor Stravinsky’s autobiography and Stuart Isacoff’s “Temperament”. Both are fascinating…Stravinsky was such a monumental figure in music and I love hearing accounts of his storied life and career right from the source! “Temperament” centers on the long-standing debates around tuning in music and he (Isacoff) brings many historical figures (such as Plato, da Vinci, Newton, Rousseau, etc.) into the conversation which satisfies my love of world history as well.
What are you listening to?
Over the Holidays I’ve been doing a lot of exploratory listening. A mix of music by new composers which was sent to me or recommended by colleagues, and also research for various programs I’m working on for future seasons. Thankfully, it’s so much easier than it used to be with such a vast array of music available online… once I get going, the hours just fly by and I always love making new discoveries!
What is the last album or song that you downloaded?
Three Dances from ‘Mlada' by Rimsky-Korsakov.
What are you currently watching on TV?
Other than the news in the morning as I get ready for the day, I mostly watch things on Netflix or HBO Go since it’s easier with my schedule. Believe it or not, over the summer I watched Breaking Bad from beginning to end…was starting to feel like I might have been the only person in the world who hadn’t seen it yet! Thought it was amazing storytelling, tremendous character development and an absolutely brilliant performance by Bryan Cranston. My Netflix account suggested ’The Blacklist’ after that - I’m now just starting season 2. I’m also waiting patiently for ‘House of Cards’ and ’Turn: Washington’s Spies’ (on AMC) to return…
What is the last movie you saw?
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Enjoyed it very much and loved seeing old characters back on the screen again! Thought J.J. Abrams did a wonderful job directing it and loved Daisy Ridley’s performance as ‘Rey’.
Who are you following on Twitter?
I follow mostly news outlets and arts organizations. I try to be active on Twitter myself, but it’s hard to stay on top of it since it moves at such a fast pace and there is always so much going on! I try to check my feed at least once a day, however… no matter how busy things are. It’s a great way to get a quick overview of what’s been going on in the world.
How do you spend your Sundays?
I love working/playing with my 7 month old puppy, Ludwig…He’s an amazing dog and he learns so quickly! I also like to stay home and catch up on my favorite shows, books, or things that I want to get done around the house. If the weather is nice, I love to be outside - whether it’s just for a walk around the neighborhood, a trip to Mendon Ponds Park or enjoying a nice coffee by the canal and people watching.
